Neville
Shulman CBE is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Fellow of the
Explorers Club, member of the Scientific Exploration Society and
of the Bhutan Society. He is Director of the British International Theatre
Institute, Vice Chair of the UK-UNESCO Culture Committe, Vice-President of the Drama Centre, an editor of the Contemporary
Theatre Review, Chairman of the Theatre Forum. He is a Freeman of the City of London and a member of the Worshipful Company
of Blacksmiths. He is Involved with numerous charitable organisations, and is a
Vice-President of the NCH (National Children's Home).
Neville Shulman has travelled
extensively throughout the world, including lndia, China,
Outer Mongolia, Tibet,
Russia, Ecuador, Venezuela,
Peru, Brazil, Argentina,
Costa Rica, Nepal, Kenya,
Tanzania, Israel, Egypt,
Jordan and Libya. In 1989, he travelled to the
Arctic and the North Pole in an expedition
organized through the Tate Gallery. To raise funds for the Red Cross, in
1996/97 he embarked on an expedition to Antarctica
and the South Pole. Every year he undertakes one or two expeditions and
explorations to raise funds for a number of charities. In 2002/2003 he climbed
extensively in the Himalayas, travelling through Tibet
and subsequently trekked along the Yangtse
River in Southern
China.There he was a member of the last
expedition team permitted to climb The Three Gorges before the government
organised flooding of them took place. This time he was raising funds for
Cancer Research, the Children's Charity NCH and several other charities. In 2004 and 2006 he undertook further charitable expeditions to Ecuador (twice), travelling through its Galapagos Islands, mountaineering on its high
mountains, particularly climbing the two highest, Chimborazo and Cotopaxi, as well as then travelling within the river systems of the Ecuadorian and Colombian jungles and rainforests.
He is a collector of modern and
contemporary art, a Patron of New Art, a Fellow of the Royal Society For The
Encouragement Of The Arts, a Director of Shepperton Film Studios, and has many involvements in the theatre, film and entertainment
industries. He is an author, journalist and lecturer on philosophy,
mountaineering and exploration.
